I am so proud to announce that one of our support companions, Louise Hammond, has won Dementia Carer of the year, at the London Region for the Great British Care Awards. She exemplifies the ethos we aspire to within the Eximius community.
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding care within their field of work.
Louise and her client had worked with me in my previous company and I was very proud when they moved to Eximius as soon as they could. Louise has worked in Live-in care for 9 years and has a fantastic attitude and approach.
Louise was nominated by our client’s daughter, who wrote the following:
“My mother has dementia and requires full time care, we knew if she were to go and live in a home she would be incredibly unhappy so the search for a live in carer began…
My mum is a very tricky character and finding someone prepared to stay with her 24 hours a day, 7 days a week was a big ask. Kate and Louise entered our lives at just the right time – I was juggling my own family life being a working mum a long with trying to care for mum to the best of my abilities and it simply wasn’t working.
Since Louise arrived nearly 5 years ago despite a decline in my mums health her quality of life has improved 100% – we know she is happy, well fed and cared for and safe to remain in her own home.
Louise on discovering my mums love of dogs arranged to Foster a gorgeous Labrador who is literally mums’ best friend, this also got mum out walking again, which in her healthier days she used to love.
Watching the relationship blossom between mum and Louise has been a sheer delight – the jokes, conversations, daily trips out – we now consider Louise to be one of the family, from day one she made a real effort to get to know us all which we really appreciated.
Hand on heart I honestly can’t imagine our lives without Louise in them. We can relax in the knowledge that our previously vulnerable mum is now happy and safe, able to remain in her own home.”
Live-in care is a life-line for people with dementia, as well as all sorts of other concerns. It enables people to stay in their own homes, with their own routines and live the lives they always have – with a little extra support!
From all of us here, well done Louise! We’re very proud!
x Kate and the entire Eximius family!
